Enlist Today in "Friends of NAS Richmond" Naval Air Station, Richmond, (Florida) was opened in September, 1942, and was destroyed by fire and a hurricane on 15 September, 1945. In 1995, a decision was made to build a permanent exhibit dedicated to the memory of a short lived naval airship base and the men and women who served here. Membership in the "Friends of NAS Richmond" is free during this period of organization. We are collecting photos, diaries, notes, newspaper accounts, and just about anything else relating to the history of this facility. We would like to build a list of people who have either served at NAS Richmond during World War II, visited the base, or are just interested in the historical aspects of naval aviation. We hope to publish, at least, a newsletter about the goings on here as this project develops, so we are not asking for money for a membership at this time, since we don't have anything of substance to offer you in return! We will just add your name to the list and keep you posted, periodically, of the progress of the exhibit. |
