Highlight: Volunteering

The Gold Coast Railroad Museum, like most non-profit organizations, depends on the efforts of volunteers. In this section we honor a special segment of our volunteer force, our Family Members and Junior Trainmen. Family membership is a special way for families to bond with each other and contribute to the community in a constructive way, participating in a variety of projects.

At the Gold Coast Railroad Museum, we are proud to have a number of active family members. Two highlights are the Metz Family, consisting of Bill, Lourdes, Tim, and Erik. Lourdes has been a member for a couple of years now and regularly works with other volunteers on a number of projects. She has become a member of the Museum's Board and produces Museum memorabilia, such as pins, for sale in the Museum Store. Erik, Lourdes' son, is one of the Museum's Junior Trainman, and is an active part of the volunteer force. Erik participates in many projects and assists with all train operations. Lourdes and her husband Bill were married at the Museum, where Bill is now one of the project coordinators. Bill's son, Tim is also a Junior Trainman, assisting with many projects on weekends. Pictured on this page are a few photos of the Metz family at work preparing some artifacts for display.

Together, the Metz family is one of the driving forces of the projects that you can see being completed at the Museum. They often work as a team, and inspire other volunteers to become more active.

Another active family is the Hames family, consisting of David, Elizabeth, Daniel, and Emma. Elizabeth has been working hard on cataloging the Museum's library and artifact collection. Daniel is another of the Museum's Junior Trainmen and can be found several times each month volunteering at the Museum. He participates in all aspects of operations, assists with a variety of projects, and even assists with closing the Museum at the end of the day.

If you would like to join our volunteer force, please fill out an application. The contributions you make will benefit the Museum and the community. All our trains are operated entirely by our volunteers; a unique opportunity for everyone interested in railroads.
